INTRODUCTION
The Model DLC Device Loop Card from Siemens Industry, Inc., is the interface for connection of FireFinder-XLS/Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular smoke detectors, Multi-Criteria detectors including Carbon Monoxide, manual stations, monitor devices, and control devices to the
FireFinder-XLS/Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular System. The DLC uses one network address on the system. The application program that is loaded into the onboard microprocessor controls the DLC operation.
The DLC contains 12 LEDs for diagnosis of problems. Ground fault detection is provided by the loop.
All field devices connected to the DLC are addressed and tested using the Device Programming Unit (DPU).
OPERATION
The DLC initializes, operates, and maintains all devices residing on the loop. The DLC communicates all relevant device and event information, such as alarms and troubles, to the System CPU. The sensitivity of any intelligent smoke detector and the logic functions of any intelligent output devices can be checked and adjusted from the Operator Interface (OI) through the DLC. All information about the
devices on the loop can be displayed on the OI. The DLC allows the System polarity insensitive devices to be connected without generating errors.

The on-board microprocessor provides the DLC with the ability to function and initiate alarm conditions even if the main FireFinder-XLS/Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular CPU fails.
Multi-Criteria detectors (Table 1) are supported by the OI, FW version 9.02 and later, and the DLC with Firmware version 06.xx and later. The DLC can be made backwards compatible in systems using OI, P/N 500-033070, with DLC Firmware version 05.06 or earlier
The OI collaborates with the DLC FW to identify compatibility with the Multi-Criteria detectors (Table 1). In cases where the OI does not support the Multi-Criteria detectors, the OI will specify “Configuration Process Failure”, and illuminate the “TROUBLE” LED on the DLC. In cases where Multi-Criteria detectors are not used, the DLC can be reprogrammed with the FW version 05.06 or earlier. The compatibility chart is as follows:
OI version 8.05 and earlier | OI version 09.02 and late | |
DLC version 05.06 and earlier | OK | OK |
DLC version 06.xx and later | ncompatible (TROUBLE LED) | OK |
Controls and Indicators
The front panel of the DLC contains one reset switch, 12 LEDs, and three HNET address switches, as shown in Figure 1. A reset switch is located on the top of the front panel. Pushing the reset switch re-initializes the DLC operation.
The LEDs follow the reset switch and their functions are defined as follows:
POWER | (Green) | Normally ON. When illuminated, indicates the power for the DLC is applied to the card. |
CARD FAIL | (Yellow) | Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates the card microprocessor has failed. |
HNET FAIL | (Yellow) | Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the HNET communication with the DLC has terminated and the card goes into degrade mode. |
GND FAULT | (Yellow) | Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the DLC has detected either a negative or positive ground fault on its field wiring. |
ALARM | (Red) | Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the DLC has detected an alarm. |
TROUBLE | (Yellow) | Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the DLC has detected a trouble on its field wiring; or incapability between firmware in either the OI, DLC, or both. |
CLASS A OPEN–ZONE 1 | Yellow) | Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 1 wire is open if the loop was set to Class A |
CLASS A RETURN–ZONE 1 | Yellow) | Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 1 return wire is reversed if the loop was set to Class A. |
SHORT–ZONE 1 | Yellow) | Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 1 wire short. |
CLASS A OPEN–ZONE 2 | Yellow) | Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 2 wire is open if the loop was set to Class A. |
CLASS A RETURN–ZONE 2 | Yellow) | Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 2 return wire is reversed if the loop was set to Class A. |
SHORT–ZONE 2 | Yellow) | Normally Off. When illuminated, indicates a Zone 2 wire short. |
Three rotary dial switches at the bottom of the front panel are used to set the HNET network address of the DLC. All field devices connected to the DLC are addressed and tested using the Device Programming Unit (DPU). Refer to the DPU Manual, P/N 315-033260 for further information.
PRE-INSTALLATION
Set the three-digit HNET network address for the DLC using the three rotary dial switches located near the bottom of the front panel. (Refer to Figure 1 for the location of the switches.) The address for the DLC must be the same as the address selected for it in the Zeus Programming Tool. To set the address, turn the pointers on each of the three dials to the numbers for the selected address. For example, if the address is 123, set the pointer for the HUNDREDS dial to “1”, set the pointer for the
TENS dial to “2”, and set the pointer for the ONES dial to “3”. The range of allowable addresses is from 001 to 251 (leading zeros must be used).
INSTALLATION
The DLC plugs perpendicularly into one slot in the CC-5 card-cage via two 96-pin DIN
connectors and can occupy any slot in the card cage. (Refer to Figure 2.)
Insert the DLC card into the card guides rightside up (lettering on the front panel is legible)
Slide the card in until the card edge connectors contact the receptacles on the motherboard.
Verify that the DIN connectors of the card and the cardcage are aligned properly. The card can only be plugged into the card cage in one direction; if it does not align, DO NOT FORCE the card.
Place thumbs on the front panel adjacent to the captive screws and gently apply even pressure on the card until the connectors seat in the receptacles on the motherboard.
Secure the card with the captive screws.
Remove all system power before installation, first battery then AC. (To power up, connect the AC first, then the battery.)
All field wiring to the DLC is connected to the terminal blocks of the CC-5 card cage slot in which it is installed.
To Connect External Wiring
1. Loosen the screw of the terminal by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Insert the wire into the side of the terminal block.
3. Tighten the screw of the terminal block by turning it clockwise
Connect +24V from the PSC-12 or PSC-12M to terminal 17 and -24V from the PSC-12 or PSC-12M to terminal 18 of the slot in the CC-5 where the DLC will be installed. (Refer to Figure 3.)
The DLC circuit can be wired Style 4 (Class B) or Style 6 (Class A). On-board switches controlled by microprocessor allow selection of Class A or B without using jumpers for Class B. The DLC field circuit wiring does not require twisted, shielded wire. It can be installed in conduit containing low voltage power, notification appliance circuits, audible and speaker zone circuits, and RS-485 and other data circuits without restrictions.
Electrical connections for the two zones are shown in Figure 4. The wiring style is set in the Zeus Programming Tool without using external jumpers. Once the wiring style is set, both zones will be set to the same style
Do not wire the two zones in different styles.
If the return wires in either zone are reversed (in a Class A configuration), the CLASS A RETURN LED associated with the affected zone will be illuminated. Switch the two return wires to remove this trouble. Eliminate all other troubles before completing the installation.
COMPATIBILITY
1. The DLC supports only FireFinder-XLS/Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular intelligent devices. The compatibility identifiers for the compatible devices are the model numbers listed in Table 1 for UL 864 and in Table 2 for UL2572. Use any combination of those listed in Table 1 or Table 2, as applicable.
2. The DLC supports one loop (with 2 isolated zones) of up to 252 FireFinderXLS/Desigo Fire Safety Modular/Cerberus PRO Modular intelligent field devices. Up to 252 devices can be distributed in either zone, but the total number is limited. For example, if 100 devices are in Zone 1, then the number of the devices in Zone 2 must be 152 or less.
3. All circuits are power limited to NFPA 70 per NEC 760. The DLC supports the use of 12-22 AWG non-shielded, non-twisted, thermoplastic fixture wire without conduit, if permitted by local building codes.
4. No end of line device is required.
5. Total circuit resistance of each zone must not exceed 50 ohms when 252 devices are loaded into one zone. (Refer to the chart on page 7.) Maximum capacitance: 0.5μF between line+ and line1.0μF between line and chassis
6. T-tapping is not allowed on Class A loops.
7. All models are UL and ULC listed.
8. The Multi-Criteria detectors are programmed using the DPU. The SBGA-34base, connected to a ZIC-4A, P/N 500-033050, or ZIC-8B, P/N 500-648670, can be used to create Temporal 4 tones in conjunction with the Carbon Monoxide enabled detectors FDOOTC441 and OOHC941. Using these
detectors with the ABHW-4S or ABHW-4B, the selection of tones are chosen using the panel’s configuration tool.
